Puertollano II Solar Plant located in the province of Ciudad Real, Castilla La Mancha, Spain.

The Puertollano II photovoltaic solar plant was promoted by Iberdrola Renovables Castilla-La Mancha, S.A. — IBERCAM/Iberdrola, and is a pioneering project located in the municipality of Puertollano (Ciudad Real), approximately 7 km east of the urban center and approximately 2 km north of the village of El Villar. The installation occupies around 132 hectares and the main access is from the CR-504 road, with internal roads and connections via rural paths that were expanded during construction. The photovoltaic solar plant is distributed across five enclosures with their corresponding fencing that can be seen in the aerial view/map.

The photovoltaic project received a favorable Environmental Impact Statement in December 2020 and obtained administrative authorization for construction in November 2021. It is part of the Puertollano complex designed to supply renewable energy for the industrial green hydrogen plant (officially inaugurated in May 2022). In its declared configuration, it houses almost 100 MWp of installed peak photovoltaic capacity and a battery-based storage system of 5 MW power with 4 hours duration (20 MWh).

Together with the photovoltaic and battery hybridization of Campo Arañuelo III, as of October 2025, these are among the only operating plants that incorporate batteries for solar panels.

The photovoltaic plant has bifacial modules and string inverters and is designed to generate around 156,000 MWh per year, enough to supply about 45,000 homes. Additionally, it serves to power the electrolyzer that produces 100% renewable hydrogen for industrial use (collaboration with Fertiberia).
