Solar Photovoltaic Plant Nuñez de Balboa
The Núñez de Balboa photovoltaic solar plant, located in the municipality of Usagre (Badajoz, Spain), is one of the largest solar energy installations in all of Europe. Promoted by Iberdrola, this plant has an installed photovoltaic capacity of almost 500 megawatts peak (MWp) and occupies a total area of 943 hectares, of which 134 belong to the municipality of Hinojosa del Valle and 809 to Usagre.
Núñez de Balboa was inaugurated at the end of 2020. It has three access points to reach the site, the main one (from the north) is from the BA-131 road, between the villages of Los Santos de Maimona and Hinojosa del Valle, in an area with many photovoltaic installations. The accesses from the south start from the BA-141 road.
In 2024, it produced 830 GWh of solar energy (830,000 MWh), an average of 2,200 MWh each day.
