Solar Photovoltaic Plant Cedillo

Solar Plant Francisco Pizarro located in Cedillo, Caceres

The Cedillo plant—promoted by Iberdrola (Iberenova Promociones, S.A.)—was approved with an Environmental Impact Declaration in September 2022. It has an installed photovoltaic capacity of 374.9 MWp, positioning it as one of the emblematic solar mega-parks in Extremadura. It has an installed inverter capacity of 294.66 MW and an access capacity of 267 MW nominal in Red Eléctrica, capped by the transmission network node to which it connects.

According to official documentation, more than 900,000 panels were installed with a fixed structure (it does not have solar trackers, as can be seen in construction photos).

The plant was installed on a communal property of residents from the municipalities of Cedillo and Herrera de Alcántara (Cáceres), land that the owners maintain for livestock use, making agricultural-livestock activities compatible with photovoltaic operations.

In its construction, local suppliers such as Faramax, from Malpartida de Plasencia, which provided the transformers; IMEDEXA, from Casar de Cáceres, which contributed with the towers for the electrical evacuation line; or Ecoenergías del Guadiana, which was responsible for environmental studies, participated. Additionally, along with the construction of the solar plant, the “FV Cedillo” step-up substation was built, specially constructed to evacuate the energy generated by FV Cedillo.

In the satellite view, we see how the plant is subdivided into multiple areas. Furthermore, the areas are divided into fields of two types: 8,174.52 kWp and 8,456.4 kWp, corresponding to 4 inverters per field and capable of generating electricity at a level of 30 kV in three-phase alternating system.

The plant generates green energy of approximately 582,456 MWh/year, sufficient to supply around 178,000 households, and contributes to avoiding the emission of approximately 77,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
