Solar Photovoltaic Plant Velilla

The Velilla photovoltaic plant (designated PSF VELILLA) is a facility of almost 350 MWp (with an AC nominal power of 275.02 MW, although with 250 MW nominal grid connection power at Red Electrica). It is a plant located in the municipal district of Velilla del Rio Carrión, Palencia.

The initial promoter and declared owner is IBERENOVA Promociones, S.A.U. (Iberdrola group), although among the companies involved in the execution were the Copuno group, Acciona Energía, Elecnor and Solaria, among others. The investment in material execution (construction phase) was 152.9 M€, and the promoter declares a total investment of 217M€ (CAPEX) adding other expenses.

It consists of 863,968 JA Solar modules, 168 PowerStation inverters of 1,637 kVA, with 39 transformers of 6,560 kVA and 4 transformers of 4,920 kVA. The installation occupies a fenced area of 606 ha and is connected to the grid through the “VELILLA SOLAR 30/400 kV” step-up substation and a 400 kV overhead line that connects to the existing Red Eléctrica SET Velilla substation.

The main access to the park is from the CL-615 road, where existing roads were conditioned for heavy vehicle access.

The project obtained authorizations and environmental impact declaration at the end of 2022 and construction works were registered in 2023. The plant finally entered operation on June 11, 2025, with that day being the first it injected renewable energy into the grid.

The plant supplies clean energy to approximately 180,000 households/year and avoids approximately 85,000 tCO₂/year.
